Ankober had been the political center from mid 18th till Addis Ababa became the capital of the Ethiopian Empire. Located at 172km North East of Addis Ababa and 43km East of Debre Berhan, Ankober offers spectacular scenery overlooking the Great Rift Valley, a unique monastery with Judeo-Christian tradition and ruins of Emperor Menelik's Palace. An overnight stay can also be arranged at Ankober Lodge.
