Itinerary & Destination Description
Ethiopia's Historic Northern Grand Tour
The adventure begins in Addis Ababa with airport transfer, hotel rest, and an introductory city exploration followed by a cultural dinner.
The journey continues to Bahir Dar for a boat trip on Lake Tana and a visit to the Blue Nile Falls.
Next is Lalibela, famous for its monolithic, rock-hewn churches, including a dining experience at the unique Ben Abeba restaurant.
Then, explore Gondar, the "Camelot of Africa," and its sprawling, crumbling imperial castle ruins.
The route ascends to the Simien Mountains National Park (UNESCO). The classic trek is 3 nights (Sankaber, Geech, Chennek—best for Walia Ibex spotting), with shorter options available. The mountain stay concludes luxuriously at the acclaimed Limalimo Lodge overlooking the range.
A scenic drive down switchbacks leads to Axum, the original, ancient capital, significant for its remaining relics from the faded Axumite Empire.
The trip concludes in Tigray with a stay at the beautifully designed Gheralta Lodge. Here, you explore magnificent rock churches dramatically built into cliffs, with some requiring guided rock-climbing for access and offering amazing views.
